Moving pick with pressure from other team
| Correct Call: | Moving pick. Turnover, quick whistle. Although the white player does make contact on the moving pick player, it appears that the moving pick player was going to get in the way even without contact from his opponent. | |
| For this to not be a penalty: | The dark pick setter needs to have his feet stationary before contact is made. | |
| Game Level: | This should be called at all levels. |
Feet still moving while pick is being set
| Correct Call: | Moving pick. Turnover, quick whistle. The pick setter’s feet are clearly still moving when contact is made with the defenseman. | |
| For this to not be a penalty: | The picker needs to have his feet set before contact, or avoid contact all together. | |
| Game Level: | This should be called at all levels. |
Off ball d-man checks other guys arm on a pick
| Correct Call: | Slash. 1 minute. The off ball defenseman slashes the arm of the ball carrier. While the velocity is not super strong, the location is in slash territory. This particular scenario has been a point of emphasis to discourage defenses to stop slashing the arm of the ball carrier on picks. | |
| For this to not be a penalty: | The check needs to get stick and not the upper arm. | |
| Game Level: | This should be called at all levels. |
Defenseman checks pick setter
| Correct Call: | Unnecessary roughness. 1 min. Possible 2-3 minutes if check was to the head or neck area. The on ball defenseman looks at the pick setter and then decides to cross check them. | |
| For this to not be a penalty: | The on ball defenseman needs to keep his eyes on the ball and not on the pick. If the on ball defenseman does look at the pick setter, no violent contact should be made. Contact alone does not make this a penalty. | |
| Game Level: | This should be called at all levels. |
Legal pick blow up
| Correct Call: | Legal. Since the defenseman keeps his eyes on his man, and doesn’t acknowledge the pick, this is legal. | |
| For this to be a penalty: | The on ball defenseman would need to look at the pick setter and then blow him up. | |
| Game Level: | This could be called a penalty on lower tiered games. But never on higher level games. |
Pushed into crease on a pick
| Correct Call: | Legal contact pushes the white player into the crease. Turnover, quick whistle. | |
| For this to not be a turnover: | If the push was in the back or otherwise illegal, white would maintain the ball and have a man up situation. | |
| Game Level: | This should be called at all levels. |
