Player falls down on faceoff- no trip

Correct Call: No call. The black team’s player falls down, but does not create the trip. What creates the trip is the white team’s player running into the downed player.
For this to be a penalty: There would need to be a flagrant/purposeful act to get the white player to trip.
Game Level:This should be called at every level.

Shaft to the neck

Correct Call: If the shaft is just resting there, No call. If there is a punching motion, Cross Check, 1 minute Non Releasable if the brunt of the force is directed into the neck or head area. If there is no punching, but the offensive player’s movement is impeded, 30 second hold. If the check started legal on his back, and then drove up into the head or neck, the same criteria above applies.
For this not to be a penalty: If there is no punching motion or impeding of the offensive player.
Game Level:This should be called at every level. However on lower skilled games or with two hot tempered players or teams, good game control would be to call this as strict as possible.

Easy hold call

/ Holding
Correct Call: Hold. 30 second technical foul.
For this not to be a penalty: Defenseman needs to hold the opponents cross with equal pressure.
Game Level:This should be called at all levels.

Legal hold that drags player to the ground

/ Holding, No call
Correct Call: No penalty. Legal check on the stick that drags player to ground.
For this to be a penalty: The stick would need to hold more on the body or neck.
Game Level:This could be called a penalty on lower tiered games. But never on higher level games.

Hold around the neck

/ Holding
Correct Call: Hold. 30 seconds technical foul. Penalty is wiped out because of the goal.
For this to not be a penalty: The stick needs to be below the neck and above the waist while applying only equal pressure.
Game Level:This should be called at all levels.
